Why Use Gothic Text?

Gothic-style lettering gives a short title a dramatic, historical feel. Compare the detailed Fraktur shapes with a heavier version before choosing how much decoration your phrase can carry.

Give a title a blackletter look
Angular shapes and decorative strokes can suit a short fantasy, music or creative-project title.
Choose the amount of weight
Fraktur has finer details, while Bold Fraktur appears heavier. Try the same capitals in both to find the more legible version.

Compare the live results as you type. You can move between categories without retyping your text or changing your preview size.
Free to try, private to use
Preview and copy without an account. Conversion runs in your browser, with a draft kept in this tab when browser storage is available so you can return to your text.

How It Works

  1. Enter your text

Type a name, label or short message, up to 500 characters. Joined emoji count together. Use Clear to start over or Try an example for a starting phrase.

  2. Choose your style

Compare Fraktur and Bold Fraktur. Check decorative capitals carefully and remember that digits remain unchanged. The size slider changes this preview only; it does not set the size of pasted text.

  3. Copy and paste

Select Copy beside the result you want. Paste with Ctrl+V, Cmd+V or your phone’s Paste action, then check the result in the destination. If Copy is unavailable, select the complete result and copy manually.

Popular Use Cases

Fantasy character labels
Try a short character or group name for an informal profile. Game username fields can be stricter than biography fields, so test the intended destination.
Music and event captions
Use a brief blackletter heading to set a mood, with dates, venue details and the main message in readable ordinary text.
Title concept sketches
Compare a project title in both weights as an early visual idea. Create or select a font file when the final design needs consistent typography.

Styles & character coverage

A Fraktur interpretation of gothic text

This gothic font generator uses Fraktur and Bold Fraktur alphabets. Their angular shapes can evoke blackletter or lettering described as Old English. Those are broader design and historical terms; this page offers two Unicode approximations, not a complete typeface catalog.

Fraktur
The lighter set supports uppercase and lowercase Latin letters. Capitals such as C, H, I, R and Z use established Unicode symbols that can look slightly different in your device’s font.
Bold Fraktur
The heavier alphabet creates denser shapes. Both presets preserve numbers, punctuation and unsupported scripts.

Keep decorative blackletter labels short and check letters that are easy to confuse. Use ordinary text alongside the result when the exact spelling matters.

Character coverage

Fraktur
A–Z and a–z; other characters stay unchanged. Preserve case.
Bold Fraktur
A–Z and a–z; other characters stay unchanged. Preserve case.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a genuine Old English font?

It is a Unicode Fraktur effect. Old English and blackletter cover more than these two alphabets, and this tool does not install a historical font.

Why do gothic numbers not change?

The Fraktur alphabets used here do not include a corresponding digit set. Original digits remain readable in the result.

Why can the same gothic text look different elsewhere?

The destination picks a font containing these Unicode characters. Its outlines, weight and spacing may differ from your browser's fallback font.

Can I use gothic text as a game name?

Only where the game accepts these characters. Decorative Fraktur letters may be hard to distinguish or unsupported by the game’s font. Try a short sample, keep a plain version and follow the destination’s naming rules.

Is this free, and is my text uploaded?

Generating and copying text is free, with no sign-up. Input is limited to 500 characters and converted in your browser. When storage is available, this tab keeps a draft of your text and preview size; neither is sent to a server. Clear removes the draft text. The separate font-creation tools follow their own plans and workflow.

How can I create a font from my own lettering?

If you draw your own blackletter alphabet, use a clear image of the available letters as a source for a custom font. A copied Fraktur result does not create original glyphs or a downloadable typeface. Choose Create your font to open the homepage upload area. It accepts a PNG, JPG or WebP image; review the letters in the main font-creation workflow.

Create your own font

Turn your handwriting or a letter image into your own font.

Ready to design original letters? MakeFont’s AI font generator starts with your image. Upload a PNG, JPG or WebP on the homepage and review your letters in the font-creation workspace. Creating an installable font is a separate workflow with its own plans; the Unicode effects on this page remain free to copy.
