Why Use Glitch Text?

A short distorted line can set the tone for a spooky greeting or an experimental caption. Start with a restrained effect and compare the three intensities while you can still read the underlying words.

Choose a controlled intensity
Low, Medium and High add up to 2, 4 and 8 marks to each eligible character. You can compare the visual difference instead of endlessly adding more marks.
Copy the pattern you previewed
The same text and intensity give the same result. Your copied string matches the selected preview rather than changing its pattern when you press Copy.
See your own words instantly
Compare the live results as you type. You can move between categories without retyping your text or changing your preview size.
Free to try, private to use
Preview and copy without an account. Conversion runs in your browser, with a draft kept in this tab when browser storage is available so you can return to your text.

How It Works

  1. Enter your text

Type a name, label or short message, up to 500 characters. Joined emoji count together. Use Clear to start over or Try an example for a starting phrase.

  2. Choose your style

Compare Low, Medium and High. Check the Low result first, since extra marks can reduce readability or run into an app’s character limits. The size slider changes this preview only; it does not set the size of pasted text.

  3. Copy and paste

Select Copy beside the result you want. Paste with Ctrl+V, Cmd+V or your phone’s Paste action, then check the result in the destination. If Copy is unavailable, select the complete result and copy manually.

Popular Use Cases

Spooky greetings
Try a short seasonal or horror-themed greeting at Low intensity. Keep practical information, dates and directions in normal text.
Experimental captions
Use a brief distorted phrase as an accent. Preview it in the target app to check that marks do not crowd nearby lines.
Fictional character posts
Add a small visual effect to an informal character message where the platform permits it. Avoid dense blocks that make the message difficult to read.

Styles & character coverage

Control the amount of Zalgo-style distortion

Glitch text adds combining marks above and below eligible letters or numbers. This is often called Zalgo text and can contribute to a cursed or creepy look, although those words also describe other visual effects. Here, the three presets differ by a fixed number of added marks.

Low · 2 marks
A restrained effect for comparing readability. Emoji, spaces and letters that already carry added marks remain unchanged.
Medium · 4 marks
More visible distortion without changing the base letters. The same input and preset always produce the same result.
High · 8 marks
The strongest preset is capped at eight added marks per eligible character. It produces longer text and is more likely to run into a destination's limits.

Start with Low and paste a short sample into the destination. The preview contains the marks inside each result area, but the app you paste into may lay them out differently.

Character coverage

Glitch · Low
Adds up to 2 combining marks to each plain letter or number; emoji, whitespace and already marked clusters stay unchanged. Preserve case.
Glitch · Medium
Adds up to 4 combining marks to each plain letter or number; emoji, whitespace and already marked clusters stay unchanged. Preserve case.
Glitch · High
Adds up to 8 combining marks to each plain letter or number; emoji, whitespace and already marked clusters stay unchanged. Preserve case.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my glitch text stop growing when I paste it back?

Letters that already have added marks stay unchanged. Pasting the result back will not keep stacking more decorations on those letters.

Does the glitch pattern change when I copy?

No. The same words and intensity give you the same pattern each time. Copy transfers the complete output shown in that result.

Can High intensity exceed an app's character limit?

Yes. Each added mark can count as another character even when it appears attached to a single letter. The destination may count or restrict them differently.

Can I paste glitch text into any username or message field?

No. A destination may strip combining marks, limit their number or reject the characters altogether. High intensity creates a much longer string even when the words look short. Start with Low and check the actual field; this page cannot control the app’s line height or clipping.

Is this free, and is my text uploaded?

Generating and copying text is free, with no sign-up. Input is limited to 500 characters and converted in your browser. When storage is available, this tab keeps a draft of your text and preview size; neither is sent to a server. Clear removes the draft text. The separate font-creation tools follow their own plans and workflow.

How can I create a font from my own lettering?

For an original typeface based on your own letter shapes, start with a clean letter image on the homepage. Glitch combines existing characters and marks; it does not generate a new font file or animated effect. Choose Create your font to open the homepage upload area. It accepts a PNG, JPG or WebP image; review the letters in the main font-creation workflow.

Create your own font

Turn your handwriting or a letter image into your own font.

Ready to design original letters? MakeFont’s AI font generator starts with your image. Upload a PNG, JPG or WebP on the homepage and review your letters in the font-creation workspace. Creating an installable font is a separate workflow with its own plans; the Unicode effects on this page remain free to copy.
